Comprehensive Immigration Reform

President Obama’s proposal for immigration reform has four parts. First, continue to strengthen our borders. Second, crack down on companies that hire undocumented workers. Third, hold undocumented immigrants accountable before they can earn their citizenship; Fourth, streamline the legal immigration system for families, workers, and employers. The US Supreme Court faces a challenging docket

There are 39 appeals on the Supreme Court’s schedule in 2013. As many as three dozen more are expected to be added in coming months. Other controversial appeals that may yet be added to the high court’s docket cover issues relate to voting rights enforcement, voter identification laws, same-sex marriage rights, and “personhood” laws for the unborn. Illinois Driver Licenses November 28 2013

The New IL Driver’s License Law is now a reality. The Secretary of State may issue a temporary visitor’s driver’s license to an applicant who is undocumented and is unable to obtain a Social Security Number. The applicant must provide proof of liability insurance amongst other things. Read more at Illinois Driver’s License Public Law

Missouri DWI Case, Missouri v. McNeely

At issue is whether a law enforcement officer may obtain a nonconsensual and warrantless blood sample from a drunk driver under the exigent circumstances exception to the Fourth Amendment warrant requirement based upon the natural dissipation of alcohol in the bloodstream.

The Constitutional right of Corporations

Corporations, like people, have a constitutional right to spend money on U.S. elections. That’s what the U.S. Supreme Court decided in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission in 2010. Move to Amend, a coalition, introduced its We the People Amendment in Congress. The amendment aims to establish that “money is not speech.” Read more at We the People Amendment
