“Right to Work” unlikely to move forward in Missouri

While a pro-business agenda has been fast-tracked by Missouri’s Republican-controlled General Assembly this session, the “Right to work” issue has been pushed to the sidelines. An effort to let workers refuse to join or pay dues to a union dubbed “right to work” has been stalled. Read more at Right to work legislation

Workers’ Compensation Database in Missouri

The Missouri Legislature has voted to create an online database allowing businesses to check whether job applicants have a history of filing workers’ compensation claims. Read more at Missouri Workers’ Compensation Database

Investor Visa EB5 Amendments

Senator Patrick Leahy’s (D-Vermont) Amendment providing enhancements to the EB-5 program passed May 17, 2013 adding it to the Senate’s Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill. The amendment provides many enhancements to the EB-5 program The Leahy Amendments’ other EB-5 program enhancements:

  • permanently authorizing the EB-5 program (set to sunset in September 2015);
  •  exempting spouses and children of investors from the 10,000 visa limitation;
  • creating at least 5,000 EB-5 visas a year for investments into targeted employment areas
  • authorizing the preapproval of business plans for regional center investments,
  • and adjusting the minimum EB-5 investment amount on January 1, 2016 by the percentage change in the consumer price index (CPI)

Federal Judge rules on USDHS Priority

Federal Judge Reed O’Connor said in a court order Tuesday that Congress not the president, sets priority for arresting illegal immigrants, and said the law requires them to be put in deportation proceedings. The judge ruled that the administration is likely violating the law by telling immigration agents and officers not to arrest illegal immigrants they deem low priority, in a case that could upend President Obama’s enforcement policy.
